We have a used POS that has a pending code stored in memory. The only way to get the CEL to come back on is to drive it. Since I live the farthest away (and don't mind driving junk) I got asked to take this home. At least its stick.
Get ready for VTEC KICKED IN YO jokes.

It's like a rental, only free. How much air can you get off a speed-hump?

Is it a customer car or something I'll see for sale online soon?

IF the CEL is nothing major and IF they decide to fix the rest of what's wrong with it it will be for sale. If I don't kill it.
(why did i say that?)

It will be like a low budget version of this.

Why do I volunteer for this?
Free gas on the company dime yo. I always was happy to drive any kind of car home if they paid for the gas.
On a side note, it sounds like someone went to Honest Joe's Auto Repair to have the CEL switched off before trading it in. "No, Mr. Salesman, there's nothing at all wrong with my car- I swear!"

Oh, come on now. My daily driver is a 2001 Civic (4-door). It's not that bad! As for the CEL... what code does it read? Given that it isn't coming on at least until the engine warms up makes me think something emissions related.

This might sound odd, but check the SRS system. The driver's side belt buckle has a sensor in it that interacts with the SRS system. After years of use, the contact switch in the buckle tends to go, and causes the SRS system to freak out. If you want the ghetto way, here's how to reset it: http://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-20… or this: http://www.civicforums.com/forums/111-ele… Depending on how many times the SRS light blinks, that might be the cause of it. The annoying thing is the cost of replacing the switch. Instead of replacing the switch, you have to replace the entire buckle assembly. Or in my case, cut the switch open, clean it, and reset the SRS light once a year or so, because Honda of Canada doesn't have a lifetime warranty on safety related parts like they do in the U.S.

We're going to send it to our Honda dealer to fix the light once we find out what the pending code is.... I'm thinking the owner DID try the fix because the front seat bolts are loose, cross threaded (?) and not tight/have washers on them.
Such POS.
Only 87k on it and some dumb college kid wrecked it.
